Dog Awareness Day - HUGE SUCCESS! PDF Print E-mail

Dogs of all shapes and sizes dragged their owners to Trosley Country Park last Friday to participate in the Meopham Dog Database Registration Scheme arranged by Kent County Council Community Warden’s Jacquie Fuller and Mandy Cason.

This will be the third year that the scheme has been running and so far over 300 dog lovers have registered their dogs on the database.

The scheme operates on the basis that when a dog goes missing, local warden’s and police are able to identify the dog from pictures held on the database and re-unite dog and owner, quickly and with minimum fuss.

Specialists were also available to provide help and advice on health and welfare. Training and nutrition tips were provided by Dog Behaviourist Jak Bunn of Dog Psyche UK.

All the agencies involved were promoting and supporting the clean Kent dog fouling policies and the provision of dog waste bags and gloves. Attendees were also able to have a portrait photograph of their pets provided by photographer Ricky Turrell from Artistic Images, which proved to be very popular.

Every owner who registered their dog(s) received a certificate of registration, an ID disc for the dog’s collar and information on contacts, home security and  dog law.

KCC Community Wardens also photographed the dogs and completed a registration document containing age, name, colour and breed of the dog.

Each dog was also scanned to recover microchip details for the owner and any un-chipped dogs were microchipped there and then at minimal cost and some rescue dogs were chipped free of charge.

The event was such a success that requests have been made for a similar event at Camer Park and other venues, in fact some dog owners felt that the scheme should be run across the whole county.
